We are committed to making this website accessible and easy to use for as many people as possible. Our target standard is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA.
Conformance status
This website is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA: most content meets the standard, and some parts listed below do not yet. A formal accessibility audit by an independent assessor has not yet been carried out; it is a condition of this service's full launch, and this statement will be updated with its findings. What we can honestly say today is based on our own engineering checks, described under "Preparation of this statement".
What we have implemented
The design of this site applies accessibility good practice, including:
- Semantic landmarks - clear page structure using headers, navigation, main and footer regions, with one main heading per page and a logical heading order.
- Keyboard support - all links, buttons, menus and form fields can be reached and operated with a keyboard alone.
- Visible focus - a clear focus outline shows keyboard users where they are on the page.
- Alternative text - meaningful images carry text alternatives, and decorative graphics are hidden from assistive technology.
- Colour contrast - text and interface colours are chosen to meet AA contrast ratios.
- Reduced motion - animations are disabled for visitors who set a "reduce motion" preference in their device.
- Responsive layout - content reflows for small screens and supports zooming without loss of content.
Known limitations
- Some PDF documents were produced outside this service and have not been remediated for screen-reader use.
- The interactive mission map is easiest to use with a mouse or touch; an equivalent searchable directory of all missions is provided on the same page as the accessible alternative.
- Screen-reader journeys have not yet been formally tested with NVDA, JAWS or VoiceOver; this is part of the pending independent audit.
- Third-party services linked from this site, such as eCitizen, are outside our control and may meet different standards.
How to report an accessibility problem
If you find a part of this site that is difficult to use, or you need information in a different format, please tell us. Email accessibility@mfa.go.ke and describe the problem and the page it occurred on. We aim to respond and, where possible, provide the information you need in an accessible way.
Preparation of this statement
This statement was prepared on 14 September 2026 and reflects what has actually been verified: an automated accessibility pre-check runs on every build (heading structure, page language, image text alternatives, form labelling, focus order), together with a full link audit and manual keyboard spot-checks. It does not claim the independent WCAG 2.1 AA assessment, which is pending and will be published here when complete.
