MESSAGE FROM THE HIGH COMMISSIONER

I am delighted to welcome you to the website of the High Commission of the Republic of Kenya in Kingston, Jamaica.

The establishment of the Kenya High Commission in Kingston marked a new chapter in the longstanding and cordial relations between Kenya and Jamaica, and reflects Kenya’s commitment to deepening its engagement with Jamaica, the wider Caribbean region and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).

Allow me to briefly introduce our country, Kenya. Located in East Africa along the Indian Ocean, Kenya is a country of remarkable geographical, cultural and economic diversity. The Equator traverses the country, contributing to its varied climatic conditions and landscapes, from the snow-capped peaks of Mount Kenya and the Great Rift Valley to vast savannahs, tropical forests and coastal beaches. Kenya is home to world-renowned wildlife and natural attractions, including the Maasai Mara, famous for the annual wildebeest migration. Our rich cultural heritage, reflected in our diverse communities, languages, traditions and creative expressions, is an integral part of our national identity.

The establishment of the High Commission in Kingston was inspired by the longstanding historical, cultural and people-to-people ties between Africa and the Caribbean. Kenya and Jamaica share a common commitment to the principles of multilateralism, South-South cooperation, sustainable development, peace and security, and the empowerment of our peoples. Our relations are further strengthened by our membership and participation in the Commonwealth and our shared engagement within international and multilateral fora.

Jamaica occupies an important position in the Caribbean and is a key partner for Kenya in advancing our engagement with the region. The High Commission will therefore work to strengthen bilateral relations between Kenya and Jamaica while also advancing Kenya’s engagement with other countries of accreditation in the Caribbean, including CARICOM.

The Mission’s mandate is to promote and strengthen political, economic, trade, investment, tourism, cultural, educational, health, sports and people-to-people cooperation between Kenya and Jamaica as well as all countries of accreditation. We will also continue to facilitate greater interaction between our business communities, institutions, professionals, youth and other stakeholders, with a view to identifying opportunities that can deliver mutual benefit to our peoples.

To the Kenyan diaspora in Jamaica and across the Caribbean, I wish to assure you that the High Commission is committed to remaining accessible and responsive to your needs. We look forward to working with you to address your concerns, strengthen your connection with Kenya and harness your contribution to Kenya’s national development.

This website provides a platform for engagement between the High Commission, the Kenyan diaspora, our Jamaican friends and partners, and the wider public. It will provide information about Kenya, the High Commission, consular and other services, opportunities for cooperation, and developments of interest in Kenya–Jamaica and Kenya–Caribbean relations.

We welcome your feedback and engagement through the High Commission’s social media platforms, email and telephone contacts. We look forward to working with all our partners and stakeholders in building an even stronger bridge between Kenya, Jamaica and the wider Caribbean.
