Kenya and Thailand seek to deepen strategic partnership ahead of 60th anniversary

Kenya and Thailand pursued closer strategic cooperation as the two countries approach 60 years of diplomatic relations.

On 19 August 2026, Kenya’s Deputy Director General for Asia and the Pacific met Thailand’s Ambassador-designate to discuss deepening bilateral ties.

The talks focused on turning political goodwill into economic and development gains, with priority sectors including agriculture, trade and investment, wellness, tourism, education and the Blue Economy. Both sides agreed to revitalise the Joint Commission established in 2001 and acknowledged that trade remains imbalanced in Thailand’s favour.

The two countries aim to use 2027, marking sixty years of diplomatic relations, as a catalyst for results-focused cooperation, including coordination on sustainability, security and multilateral reform in the Africa–ASEAN context.
