Kenya and Qatar agree to deepen bilateral cooperation

Kenya and Qatar committed to strengthening bilateral cooperation across trade, investment and diplomatic engagement.

The Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs met Qatar’s Secretary-General of Foreign Affairs and the two sides agreed to establish annual political consultations between the two countries.

They identified cooperation across trade, investment, agriculture, labour mobility, aviation and climate action. Kenya sought greater Qatari investment in renewable energy, infrastructure and special economic zones, and proposed Qatari participation in a US$200 million green fund.

The two sides agreed to accelerate the update of the 2012 labour agreement, which covers more than 70,000 Kenyan workers in Qatar, to pursue the removal of restrictions on Kenyan meat exports, and to expand cooperation between Kenya Airways and Qatar Airways. The next round of consultations will be held in Nairobi in 2027.
