The Foreign Service Academy has marked a historic milestone with the graduation of its first-ever cohort of 57 Third Secretary cadets, the first group to complete the Academy's structured Foundation Course in Foreign Policy and Diplomacy.
The Foundation Course is the entry level of the four-tier Foreign Service Academy Training Curriculum, designed to equip officers with the knowledge, skills and tools required to navigate the complexities of twenty-first century diplomacy. The cohort, drawn from the State Department for Foreign Affairs and the State Department for Diaspora Affairs, covered modules in Kenya's foreign policy, diplomatic practice and protocol, multilateral diplomacy, economic diplomacy, and consular affairs. The graduation underscores the Academy's transition from the legacy Foreign Service Institute (established 2006) into a fully operational Semi-Autonomous Government Agency under the Foreign Service Act, 2021, and signals the start of a predictable, structured pipeline of professionally trained Kenyan diplomats.
